The Black Drop Tour takes you to Actun Loch Tunich, known as the “Mother of All Caves.” You won’t get there on foot though. While this journey starts with a hike up the foothills of the Maya Mountains, to get to Actun Loch Tunich, visitors must rappel 300 feet down. This is where the black drop comes into play, as it’s nearly impossible to see the sinkhole down below. After you’ve been carefully harnessed, you’ll rappel through the rainforest canopy until you meet the cavern, where you’ll stop for a picnic lunch. Getting back to the top will require rock climbing and ladder scaling. While this tour is recommended for those who are physically fit, it will also require a strong mind to challenge the heights. Only fully trained licensed tour guides can take you through this tour to ensure your safety.
